NEWS: Venezuelan Nationals Now Eligible for TPS

The United States designated Venezuela for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 18 months, effective March 9, 2021, through Sept. 9, 2022. People from Venezuela may submit an initial registration application during the 180-day registration period that begins March 9, 2021, and ends on Sept. 5, 2021, and apply for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD). Once a beneficiary is granted TPS, they are authorized to work.

This means we have to file your application before September 5, 2021 or you will lose your ability to apply. If you need to apply for TPS, contact us online or call (972) 497-1017 today. Se habla Español.

What Is TPS?

The United States may designate a foreign country for TPS due to conditions in the country that temporarily prevent the country's nationals from returning safely, or in certain circumstances, where the country is unable to handle the return of its nationals adequately.

The U.S. may designate a country for TPS due to the following temporary conditions in the country:

  • Ongoing armed conflict (such as civil war)
  • An environmental disaster (such as earthquake or hurricane), or an epidemic
  • Other extraordinary and temporary conditions

During a designated period, individuals who have TPS:

  • Are not removable from the United States
  • Can obtain an employment authorization document (EAD)
  • May be granted travel authorization
  • Cannot be detained by DHS on the basis of his or her immigration status in the United States.

TPS is a temporary benefit that does not lead to lawful permanent resident status or give any other immigration status. It is however life changing and will allow those who have it to live and work in the United States legally. If you have any questions, or think you may qualify, please give our office a call.
