Renew Green Card Fighting For a Secure Future For You & Your Family

Renew Your Green Card with a Dallas Immigration Lawyer

If your green card is expired or will be expiring within the next 6 months, it is time to renew it.

Understand that an expired green card doesn’t mean you are no longer a lawful permanent resident- you keep that status for life until and unless an immigration judge takes it away from you.  However, if your green card is expired, it is harder to prove that you are a permanent resident in case you need to such as to travel or to get a new job. Therefore, we highly recommend filing the application to renew six months before your card expires.

How to Renew Your Green Card

The renewal process requires filing Form I-90, which can be found on uscis.gov. You have two filing options:

  • Online filing: Costs $415.00
  • Mail-in filing: Costs $465.00

In most cases, you only need to submit a copy of your expired or soon-to-expire Green Card as proof of eligibility for renewal.

Do You Have a Conditional Green Card?

If your Green Card was issued for only two years instead of ten years, you have a conditional Green Card, which requires a different process. Do not file Form I-90. Instead, you may need to file:

  • Form I-751 (for marriage-based conditional residents)
  • Form I-829 (for investor-based conditional residents)

Since the requirements differ, consult with an immigration attorney before submitting your application to ensure you're filing the correct form.
